Uncle Ben's Blog Tour

One of my favorite foods is rice, so you know I wasn’t saying no to a blog tour for New Uncle Ben rice. Uncle Ben is the brand I buy for my family, so I’m always open to trying some thing new from a brand I like.

I will admit that I’m an instant rice kind of girl. I just don’t have the time to wait 10-15 minutes for regular rice. So you know I was a little surprised to see this rice I received was not instant rice.

It was Whole Grain White Rice – Long Grain. It cooks in 10 minutes and has 45g
whole grain.

If you don’t know whole grain is the new thing and everything you buy is saying it has whole grain. I liked that it was low in sodium because that helps with my high blood pressure.

There are only three steps to preparing this rice.

1. You add the rice and water to a saucepan
2. Let it boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes
3. Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir and serve

Now that’s not hard, a few extra minutes than I’m use to, but with the same results.

I decided to prepare this rice with some beef cubes I was cooking in the crock pot. I told you I like to conserve time when I prepare meals. I’m not one for staying in the kitchen after working a full day. Since I didn’t have to prepare a meat, the extra time I took to cook the rice didn’t even bother me. It prepared just like the instant.

The color kind of threw me because it reminded me of brown rice. I think it got the kids too because they kept wanting to know what kind of rice was it.

Final result: I liked the rice, it did remind me of brown rice in taste, almost like a nutty flavor. The kids didn’t care for it. I think it was the color instead of the taste. I have picky kids and they don’t go for change.

Would I buy this product again? I believe I would. I'm trying to learn to eat more healthier, so I'm sure this will be something new I'll add to our menu.
